
A suspected member of the regional terrorist cell Jemaah Islamiah was arrested yesterday by government troopers in the course of serving a search warrant in Shariff Kabunsuan, Maguindanao.
Camp Crame reports identified the suspect as Bangladeshi national Muhammad Alpariz described to be an expert bomb maker. A composite team of government security forces raided Alpariz’ lair in Bargy. Tapayan Datu Mastura Mun at around 3 PM.
Seized from the suspect were two improvised explosive devicesmade from 60mm mortar shells, two 81 mm mortar shells ready to be rigged, electrical wire, a 1.5 dry cell battery, an alarm clock, a cellphone, a computer set, two mortar boosters, two pieces of 9 volts batteries, two non- electrical blasting caps, detonating cords and other personal belongings.
Meanwhile, PDGEN JESUS VERSOZA, Chief of the Philippine National Police directed the members of the PNP to be vigilant and alert relative to the bungled operation of Alpariz to sow violence in that region. “The foiled attempt to sow terror in Mindanao by an arrested JI operative in Shariff Kabunsuan should prompt security forces to heighten their vigilance against similar attempts to disturb the peace in Mindanao”, Versoza stressed in his statement.
